Tankers carrying Russian oil are not allowed into India – Kommersant

Six tankers carrying a total of about 5 million barrels of Russian Sokol oil cannot reach India, reports Bloomberg with reference to tanker tracking data. According to the agency, five stuck tankers belong to Sovcomflot, the shipowner of the sixth has not been identified.
Bloomberg clarified that the Sovcomflot-owned vessel NS Century stopped south of Sri Lanka on November 16, and was joined by two more company tankers over the past week. All three vessels are heading to the Indian port of Vadinar, the agency says.
According to Bloomberg, three more tankers carrying Russian oil heading to the port of Paradip on the east coast of India did not reach their destination – Krymsk, Nellis and Liteiny Prospekt. According to the agency, each of the five ships owned by Sovcomflot carries about 700 thousand barrels of oil, the sixth tanker, Nellis, carries about 1.4 million barrels.
Bloomberg notes that the exact reason for stopping the tankers is unknown. At the same time, another Sovcomflot tanker completed loading oil in the Russian port on December 19 and is heading to Vadinar, where it is scheduled to arrive on January 5, the agency reports.
December 20 Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the Ministry of Finance updated guidelines for compliance with the Russian oil price ceiling, and also imposed sanctions against Hong Kong traders Bellatrix and Covart, Voliton from the UAE, as well as Sun Ship Management, which manages the transferred Sovcomflot oil tankers. Many similar previously little-known traders began trading Russian oil in the spring of 2022 after the introduction of sanctions.
