Today, September 12, the Taiwanese company TSMC, the world’s largest chip manufacturer, reported about plans to invest up to $100 million in the developer of microprocessors ARM. Investments will be made as part of the initial public offering (IPO) of ARM, which will take place in the United States this week.
The ARM IPO will be conducted by its current owner, the Japanese telecommunications company Softbank. This IPO is expected to be the world’s largest this year, with proceeds potentially reaching up to $5 billion, and the entire company could be appreciated at $50–60 billion.
TSMC CEO Mark Liu noted that “ARM is an important element of our ecosystem, our technologies and our customers’ ecosystem. We want this company to develop successfully, and that’s the main thing.” It is reported that in addition to TSMC, Softbank and ARM managed to attract other large investors to the IPO, including Apple, Nvidia, Alphabet, AMD, Intel, Samsung Electronics.
