tAISh has entered into a collaboration with Sola Monova

The text of the “strong woman” was put into the mouth of a novice performer

Singer tAISh released a small album of disco versions of her songs, which is headed by the track “Piggy Bank” to the verses of the poetess Sola Monova (Yulia Solomonova). Among the rest of the singer’s work, the mini-album “Disco-Ep” of four compositions looks rather unexpected: a multi-layered cheerful disco, richly decorated with musical solutions from the late 70s – early 80s of the last century, does not fit into the image of a laconic and sincere girl with a guitar, which Tais Logvinenko saw herself as, if not a rocker, then a bardess. Here, there are solid multi-stage and multi-level musical curtains, where the texts are buried in the colorful space of arrangements and it is impossible to get out of the dance. “ZD” understands how it happened.

It turned out that the band owes the new release to producer Leonid Burlakov and sound producer Konstantin Dujardin, with whom it has been working from the very beginning. They initially had the idea to focus on disco, but, according to Leonid, Tais, as a frontwoman, cut down this project in the bud. Later, when she was on maternity leave and did not participate in the creative process for some time, the musicians nevertheless brought to mind several old songs, wrapping them in a lace of new arrangements. In addition, the track “Piggy Bank” (which the singer sang already two years ago!) Needed an appropriate company. And the musicians “came off” on the old songs to the fullest. Thais knew that work was underway on the arrangements, but she could not take part in it in any way and was already preparing for the worst, for the fact that she would not like it all … But she liked it. It turned out that sometimes you just need to relax and (…have fun) trust your fellow musicians.

Oddly enough, the text of Sola Monova, full of tragic female experience, age-related sarcasm, and at the same time hope for love, suited the voice of the young Thais, who is not as experienced in matters of failed novels as her older and more professional poetess colleague. Yulia Solomonova is known for the image of an unhappy woman with her head held high. He is so cliched in pop culture, but so popular, especially among aging instagram ladies: if you have already been abandoned, then at the moment of the tragedy you want to at least be made up, with a clean head and preferably a little smart, so as not to sob too loudly, delivering a buzz to young rivals.

Tais herself cannot write anything like this yet due to her younger age (26 years), which eventually fills life with collections of unsuccessful experiences, and they, in turn, serve as a breeding ground for such texts. But an artist, and even a rock artist, does not have to perform only his own poems. The Aria group, for example, was very successful on the poetry of Margarita Pushkina (in general, she wrote for many musicians), Nautilus Pompilius is known for collaborating with Ilya Kormiltsev (who was an integral part of the group). There are plenty of examples of such cooperation both in Russia and in the West; this is quite a common practice. From a creative point of view, by the way, it is even useful to sing other people’s texts from time to time. Your own poems require more disclosure to the public, a real exposure of the pain points of the soul, and in other people’s texts you can be an actor and tear yourself up regardless of your own personality – so the nervous system is spent less, and it is easier to answer questions like “what is it all about.”

As a result, using the example of a short but colorful record, one can see that giving bandmates the opportunity for free expression and referring to the texts of other people can take a musician beyond his usual role and turn him into an artist who is interesting to listen to, unravel and consider as something extraordinary.
