Today, the American developer of design and production automation systems Synopsys agreed on the purchase of the American software engineering company Ansys for $35 billion. The deal is one of the largest in the high-tech sector in recent years and the largest deal in the world since the beginning of the year. Synopsys will pay $390 for each share of Ansys, founded in 1970 in Pennsylvania, a premium to the December 21 price of 29%. December 22, Reuters citing sources reported about negotiations between the two companies, after which Ansys shares jumped in price.
The acquisition will allow Synopsis, founded in 1986 in North Carolina, to significantly expand its portfolio of software used in industries such as aircraft, automotive, energy and the military-industrial complex. Ansys products compete with products from companies such as Autodesk, Dassault Systemes. In turn, the merger with Synopsis will allow Ansys to expand its developments in the field of specialized software that Synopsis is engaged in and which is used, among other things, in the production of microchips and their components. The companies have already been collaborating since 2017 to develop solutions for monitoring chip production and checking their quality.
