The Swedish Economic Crime Authority raided the headquarters of NASDAQ Stockholm, better known as the Stockholm Stock Exchange. The Swedish newspaper reported this today, September 14 Expressen. Prosecutor Pontus Hamilton said the investigation concerns “abuses related to financial markets.”
The American company NASDAQ, which manages the exchange of the same name, also manages several European stock exchanges, including Stockholm and Copenhagen. According to Mr. Hamilton, the search was necessary in order to obtain the necessary information from NASDAQ, but NASDAQ itself is not being investigated. He also noted that the investigation that led to the search has been ongoing for a year – and it will likely take about another year to bring charges in this case, if it is eventually done.
“It is clear that the case is related to trading on the NASDAQ exchange,” Mr. Hamilton said, declining to provide further details of the case. The press service of NASDAQ Stockholm stated that they are cooperating with the investigation and cannot comment on the details of the case.
