Swedish authorities have banned Ericsson from supplying equipment to Russia – Kommersant

The Swedish government did not give Ericsson permission to supply equipment to Russia. The company twice asked the Swedish Inspectorate for Strategic Products to allow it to fulfill its obligations to Russian partners under contracts concluded before February 26, 2022.

Information about the ban is contained in the documents on the claim of Tele2 against Satel TVK LLC (supplies Ericsson equipment). Pay attention to the materials “Vedomosti”. In June 2022, the authorities allowed Ericsson to supply software to the Russian Federation and provide technical support services until the end of 2022. The request for equipment remained pending for a long time. The refusal to permit its supply was issued in May 2023.

The case materials indicate that “due to the introduced legal ban, the Swedish company Ericsson AB, the manufacturer, was deprived of the opportunity to export its equipment to the Russian Federation.” At the same time, as noted in the document, Ericsson cannot supply equipment not only to Satel TVK LLC, but also to any other buyers from the Russian Federation.

The operator Tele2 (T2 Mobile LLC), through the Moscow Arbitration Court, demanded that Ericsson supply equipment under an agreement dated July 30, 2014, pay a penalty of €4.1 billion and collect astrent (a penalty for failure to comply with a court order for the supply of equipment). The court declared the obligations to supply equipment void. He refused Tele2’s request to oblige him to hand over the equipment, but collected a penalty for the delay of what had already been delivered earlier in violation of the deadlines.
