Stepashin argued with Peskov over a book about the President of Russia

On September 2, within the framework of the Moscow International Book Fair, Rafael Huseynov’s book “Putin’s Way” was presented. In part, its publication is timed to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the Russian leader. “Our time is turning into the era of Putin. We, releasing more than thirty years of books on history, have finally come to the present. This book is dedicated to the most popular politician of the 21st century,” the publishers say.

One of the initiators of the project was Vladimir Solovyov, head of the Union of Journalists of Russia. It was Vladimir Gennadievich who in January 2000 did the first interview with Putin in his new status. “Our president is 70 years old this year. If you look at US presidents, this is the average age,” he said at the presentation. And he confirmed that the accuracy and reliability of the joint brainchild of Huseynov and Roy Medvedev (the book is based on conversations with a veteran of domestic journalism).

“Looking through the book, I stumbled upon those events in which I took part,” Solovyov admitted. – It contains many interesting facts not yet known to the general public. And a lot of unexpected photos of Putin, they were shared with us by the press service of the Kremlin.”

For example, who knows that Vladimir Vladimirovich hung a portrait of Peter the Great on the wall in his office in Smolny while still in Leningrad, when Lenin was filmed after the State Emergency Committee? Or that, having become prime minister, he decorated Chernomyrdin’s office with the image of the first Russian emperor?

At the same time, both Vladimir Solovyov and Rafael Huseynov emphasized that the book does not “reverence for a historical figure”, it is not entirely commentary, but contains a thoughtful assessment and analysis of two decades of the life of Russia and the evolution of the person who leads it. There is every reason to believe that the GDP will get acquainted with the book personally. Earlier, however, Dmitry Peskov said that the president does not read books about himself. But Peskov, speaking at MMK, objected to the ex-premier, and now the head of the Russian Book Union, Sergei Stepashin. “I think Putin reads everything,” Stepashin assured. And he praised Roy Medvedev, who acted as the voice of history in the book, giving an interview to Huseynov and doing this, despite his venerable age – 96 years.

“I also turned seventy years old, this is not age – believe me,” Stepashin supported the speeches of his predecessors, and in turn confirmed the veracity of “Putin’s Way”:

Everything that is written there is true. These are not inventions. Now there are many memoirists, political scientists who write about events that were not close. But this is not here – this is documentary material in a magnificent literary presentation.

Touching upon the current international situation, Stepashin recalled that not so long ago both he and Putin were confident that we had finally made friends with the West and the United States:

– There was a belief that they speak to us as equals and they can be trusted. Putin, eight years before his Munich speech, did everything for us to live freely. He was the first to ask for visa-free travel for our citizens to Europe. Many say: behold, he closed the country. Yes, he did not close the country!

And returning to the book presented to readers, we note that it contains chapters on relations with America, China, the oligarchs, and the opposition. As well as pages that tell about Putin’s personal life. According to Huseynov, the chapter is written delicately, but there are facts about the family, about children, about how worthily Putin and Lyudmila Alexandrovna raised them, and what adult girls are doing today.
