State Duma Deputy Wasserman proposed to oblige Russians to report to the Federal Tax Service about the storage of cash in excess of 1 million rubles

State Duma deputy, member of the Just Russia – For Truth faction, Anatoly Wasserman, has developed a bill that provides for the introduction of a ban on the storage of funds by Russians in the amount of more than 1 million rubles without notifying the tax authority and explaining the origin of such amounts.
The parliamentarian proposes to amend the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation by adding a new article there – 187.1 (illegal circulation of funds).
“Keeping cash in rubles or foreign currency in an amount equivalent to or exceeding 1 million rubles without notifying the tax authority, including indicating the origin of funds, is punishable by a fine in the amount of illegally stored funds in the double amount and confiscation of all illegally stored funds,” he quotes Interfax the text of the bill developed by Anatoly Wasserman.
In a comment to the Telegram channel Mash Mr. Wasserman, justifying the need to adopt his bill, named TV presenter Ksenia Sobchak as a negative example, who in 2012 kept about €1.5 million in cash at home.
Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on the Financial Market, United Russia Oleg Savchenko did not support Anatoly Wasserman’s initiative. He declared RBC that does not see the possibility of passing such a bill. According to him, Russian citizens have an inalienable right to decide how to use their funds. At the same time, Anatoly Aksakov, the head of the State Duma committee on the financial market, Righteous Russia, said that Mr. Wasserman’s proposal would be “comprehensively considered.”
