Spain doubled Russian gas imports in August

Spain purchased 4,505 GWh of gas from Russia in August. This is 102.2% more compared to the same period in 2021 (2228 GWh), reports TASS with reference to the data of the Spanish energy company Enagas.
Last month, Russia accounted for 11.8% of Spain’s fuel imports, placing Russia in fifth place in terms of imports after the United States, Algeria, Nigeria and France. In total, Spain purchased 32,770 GWh from Russia in eight months, which is 22.88% more than a year earlier.
In July, the countries of the European Union (EU) approved a plan to reduce gas consumption by 15%. Spain and Portugal disagreed and agreed reduce consumption by 7%. The Spanish authorities also agreed gas saving plan. EU considers the possibility of limiting the price of Russian gas at the level of €50 per 1 MWh. This measure has yet to be approved.
