The S&P 500 broad market index closed above 5,000 points following trading on Friday, February 2, February 9. The Nasdaq traded above 16,000 for a while.
At the close of trading on Friday, the S&P 500 rose 0.6% to 5,026.51 points. The Nasdaq rose 1.3% to 15,990.66 points, the Dow Jones fell 0.1% to 38,671.69 points. The S&P 500 set its 10th year-to-date closing record. The index first crossed the 5,000 point mark on February 9.
As Reuters notes, the indices were affected by the growth of shares of technology companies. The price of Nvidia securities increased by 3.6% and reached a record level. The growth of the indices was also contributed to by the results of Microsoft, Amazon and Alphabet.
