The Arbitration Court of the Pskov Region recovered over 20 million rubles. in favor of Soyuzmultfilm with Teledistribution LLC for the illegal use of the LoLo penguin character, reports TASS studio press release.
Teledistribution presents the Latvian children’s TV channel, which was called Penguin LoLo from 2017 to 2020. The TV channel also used the image of the character in the logo.
Teledistribution applied to Rospatent after the claims of the film studio and registered a trademark. However, Soyuzmultfilm challenged this decision in court. In 2022, the TV channel lost a hearing over the use of the LoLo penguin as a logo.
Later, the channel changed the name “Penguin LoLo” to “Penguin”, and also removed the image of the character from the logo. The verdict of the Arbitration Court satisfied all the requirements of Soyuzmulftilm. The hearings were held in the Pskov region, since Teledistribution is registered there.
The Adventure of the LoLo Penguin is an animated trilogy that was released in 1986-1987 by the Soviet studios Soyuzmultfilm and Sovinfilm, as well as the Japanese companies Lifework Corporation and Aist Corporation.
