Southwind Airlines has stopped flights from Kaliningrad to Antalya – Kommersant

The flight program of Turkish Southwind Airlines to Antalya from Kaliningrad has been cancelled. This decision was made due to the ban on airline flights through European countries, the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) reported.
“Tourists who bought tours formed on these charters will be offered a full refund or flight via Moscow/St. Petersburg. It’s up to the tourist to choose,” says the ATOR press release in Telegram.
This week the European Union (EU) banned Southwind Airlines flights within the countries of the association. The decision was made due to the company’s alleged ties to Russia. It is alleged that the main share of ownership of Southwind Airlines belongs not to Turkish, but to Russian structures. The agency pointed out that this violates EU sanctions.
According to ATOP, Southwind Airlines planned flights to Berlin, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich and Stuttgart in Germany, as well as Heraklion in Greece. Today, March 30, in the morning, Russian tourists stuck in Sharm el-Sheikh due to EU restrictions against Southwind Airlines, were able to fly out to Moscow.
After the start of the military operation in Ukraine in 2022, Russian airlines were banned from using European aircraft, and those leased under old contracts were called upon to be returned.
