South Korea's semiconductor production has grown at a record pace since 2009

In February, semiconductor production in South Korea, according to the local statistics office, has grown by 65.3%. This is the strongest growth since 2009. Deliveries also increased – by 59%, although this is slightly less than in January (62.7%). Semiconductor inventories fell for the second month in a row, reflecting rising demand – they fell 16.2% in February.

The results reflect an increase in global semiconductor demand after a decline last year. This promotes, in particular, the growing need for chips for AI. “We expect production to rise steadily in March, fueled by strong overseas demand for AI memory chips,” said Hye Sung Kwon, an economist at Boston University. This, in his opinion, will, in particular, be facilitated by some revival of the Chinese economy.
