The price of diesel fuel in the Russian Federation is 63 rubles. per liter, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said at a meeting on the domestic petroleum products market. According to him, some gas stations keep prices much higher because they sell only branded fuel with the prefixes “ecto” or “euro”.

“This shouldn’t happen. It is necessary to provide the consumer with a choice – to buy basic fuel at lower prices or expensive branded fuel,” Mr. Novak said at the meeting (his words are given at website government).

The meeting was attended by the management of oil companies, representatives of the Ministry of Energy, the Federal Antimonopoly Service and the Ministry of Agriculture. The participants, as the government said in a statement, “reported the stabilization of fuel prices at gas stations and in the small wholesale segment, as well as for its supplies to agricultural producers.” The markup of intermediaries when selling fuel to farmers has been reduced by almost half. Small wholesale prices continue to decline “in accordance with exchange dynamics.”

The Deputy Prime Minister instructed oil companies to increase the production of diesel fuel to meet demand in the domestic market. He noted that the differential price difference between gas stations of large oil companies and independent gas stations needs to be stabilized.

A FAS representative reported on an inspection of a gas station from Novosibirsk: it was selling diesel fuel at prices above the market, offering only branded goods, although the agreement to use the trademark expired in March. The agency promised to stop violations of competition laws.

In September, fuel prices rose sharply in Russia. In connection with this, the government banned the export of gasoline and diesel fuel, but later introduced a relaxation. Russian companies, in turn, complain about increased taxes on the industry, which is why the fuel sales business is at a loss.
