Some countries in Europe have begun to withdraw gas from storage

On November 3, Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland switched to gas extraction from underground storage facilities, according to data from the Gas Infrastructure Europe association. The next day, November 4, Belgium joined the gas withdrawal. According to the latest data, gas reserves in European storage facilities amount to 95.17%.

According to information on the website of the GTS Operator of Ukraine, on November 5, the company accepted from Gazprom an application for transit in the amount of 42.7 million cubic meters. m. Capacities are declared only at one of the two entry points to the country’s gas transmission system – the Sudzha station. The application for the GIS “Sokhanovka” was rejected.

Warm weather in Europe has postponed the start of the gas withdrawal season from storage facilities and collapsed gas prices. In European countries, the selection season begins on average around 20 October. At the beginning of November, the price of gas at the Dutch TTF hub was about €120 per 1 MWh. November 2 analysts of the investment bank Goldman Sachs predicted drop in gas prices in Europe in the coming months by 30%.

At Gazprom reportedthat even the maximum fullness of gas storages does not guarantee the European countries “a reliable passage of the autumn-winter period.”

Before the outbreak of hostilities on the territory of Ukraine, the transit of Russian pipeline gas through the territory of the country to Europe went through the Sohranivka and Sudzha points. At that time, Sokhranivka accounted for up to a third of deliveries (about 32.6 million cubic meters per day). Since May 11, the GTS operator of Ukraine has refused to accept Russian gas at this entry point, arguing that force majeure has occurred.
