Sobyanin: tourism brought more than 120 billion rubles to the Moscow budget in 2022

At the end of 2022, the tourist flow in Moscow reached 17.9 million people – 1 million more than a year earlier, wrote in blog Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin. According to him, the income of the tourism industry amounted to 879.1 billion rubles, which is 22.7% higher than in 2021. City budget revenues reached 120.4 billion rubles.

The mayor said that domestic tourism remains the driver of the development of the tourism industry – more than 90% of tourists come to Moscow from other regions. Most often these are residents of St. Petersburg, Krasnodar Territory, Vladimir, Tula and Nizhny Novgorod regions. On average, 37.3 thousand rubles are spent on a trip to the capital. In the business travel segment, growth was 6% compared to 2019. The share of medical tourism has grown to 5.4% of all trips, twice as much as in 2021.

As Mr. Sobyanin added, about 1.7 million foreigners visited Moscow last year, mostly from neighboring countries and Asian countries. The top three countries of the far abroad, of which most often came to the capital, were India, Turkey and Iran.

According to Travelata.ru, the four-day holiday that accompanies this year’s February 23 holiday has led to a 60 percent increase in demand for organized tours and independent travel. The main share of sales is formed by trips around Russia, including in the Moscow region. Organized tourists traveling abroad preferred Thailand, the United Arab Emirates and Turkey.
