Smash Mouth frontman and founder Stephen Harwell has died at the age of 56. The cause of death was acute liver failure. This was announced by the group’s manager Robert Hayes, his statement leads AP.

Stephen Harwell was born in Santa Clara, California in 1967. He started his musical career as a rapper.
In 1994, he decided to form the rock band Smash Mouth with Greg Kamp and Paul De Lisle. In 1999, the group’s second studio album Astro Lounge was released, which became the most commercially successful. In 2012, the band’s last album, Magic, was released. In 2021, Stephen Harwell left the band citing health issues.
