The Satire Theater will begin its new season with a mega-event – the birthday of Alexander Shirvindt, who was actually back in July (and, moreover, not a round date at all – 88). Nevertheless, preparations are underway, and everything is kept in the strictest confidence from the hero of the day. About how they will walk on the Day of the Honorary President of Satire, and about the changes in the theater on Sadovaya-Triumfalnaya, we talked with Shirvindt’s successor as artistic director, Sergei Gazarov.

I must say that Mr. President himself is currently in Valdai, where, like a true conservative, he spends his summer from year to year. I call him.

— How are you, Alexander Anatolyevich? What you are doing?

– Nothing, I’m moving away from the hustle and bustle. I sit on the beach with a fishing rod.

– Biting?

– But not very. Something all the fish lay on the bottom. At the end of the month I will return to Moscow – we will see each other.

He will return to Moscow and take the stage in the noisy play “Where are we?”, where the action takes place … in a madhouse.

– Sergey, what kind of fad is it to celebrate a non-circular date? I ask Gazarov.

– Firstly, a beautiful number – 88, and secondly, it is a sign of infinity. This means that we will mobilize our endless possibilities and, without changing the performance, we will do something interesting. Moreover, this sign will give us a reason to continue endlessly celebrating the birthday of Alexander Anatolyevich next year and beyond.

– About infinity sounds beautiful, but I still wanted to understand what to expect for the artist’s fans?

– I don’t want to break the effect, there will be a lot of things, guests, but if I say one thing, there will be no surprise. And I want it to be a success for Alexander Anatolyevich first of all and for everyone else.

— You spent your first season at the Academic Theater of Satire. What did you understand during this year, which is important for the further development of the theater?

“I learned something special about the speed of change: fast doesn’t mean good. That the speed of action for our two scenes – “Progress” and “Satire” – should be different.

– And if you compare it with car speeds – does Satira travel in fourth or fifth speed?

– If on a car scale, then ours will be somewhere between the first and second.

– What’s so slow?

– Maybe these speeds are not so serious, but you can’t move without them. And we started and drove off. Both in terms of repertoire and rebranding.

– Did you change the brand name of the Theater of Satire? Do you know what it can lead to? Here in Sovremennik two years ago they changed the entire corporate identity, so what? The theater was left without an artistic director and exists under the artistic council.

– No, our sign is the same as it was, we change the font a little inside, a little. There will be changes in the entrance group, and the facade will also change. But gradually, giving a new quality.
