Shell announces change of CEO

Shell Company reportedthat on January 1, 2023, Ben van Beurden will leave the post of CEO, which he held for almost ten years. Wael Sawan has been appointed as the new CEO and is now head of Integrated Energy Solutions.
Ben van Beurden joined Shell in 1983 and took over the company in 2014. Shell’s biggest acquisition under Mr van Beurden’s leadership was the $53 billion purchase of BG Group in 2016. In addition, he carried out the transfer of the company’s headquarters from the Netherlands to London. After stepping down as CEO, he will continue to serve as a consultant on Shell’s board of directors until June 30, 2023, after which he will permanently leave the company.
Wael Sawan, a 48-year-old Lebanese Canadian, joined Shell 25 years ago. His candidacy was named by experts as the most likely successor to Ben van Beurden when rumors began to circulate in early September that the current CEO might leave.
Shell shares after the announcement of the upcoming change of CEO are growing slightly. Since the beginning of the year, they have risen in price by almost 40%.
