Chinese companies are showing interest in acquiring a Volvo plant in the Kaluga region. This was stated by Governor Vladislav Shapsha at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
According to the head of the region, both Russian and Chinese companies are interested in buying the enterprise. Among the latter, there is the automobile corporation China FAW Group.
“Volvo» is ready to transfer, sell his company, together with them we are now looking for a new owner. And we have a wide range of interested parties in resuming the operation of this enterprise, including domestic ones,” said Shapsha (quoted by RIA Novosti).
In October 2022 Vedomosti wroteWhat Volvo The Group is considering various options for optimizing its business in Russia, including its full or partial sale. Then the company explained that the concern could not conduct operations in the current situation, “therefore, a decision was made to adapt the business and start reducing the number of employees.” The Russian assets of the automaker include factories for welding and painting cabs, as well as the assembly of trucks for 15,000 vehicles per year in Kaluga and four service centers for servicing them in different cities of the country.
