The shortlist of contenders for the right to host Eurovision 2023 included seven cities in the UK. Information about this appeared on Friday, August 12, in the Twitter account of the competition.
We are talking about Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield. According to the organizers, 20 cities across the United Kingdom have expressed interest in hosting the contest.
Some of them already have their own history related to Eurovision. So, in 1998 the competition was held in Birmingham, and the largest city in Scotland, Glasgow, became the venue for the dance Eurovision 2008.
Earlier, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) said that for security reasons, the famous song contest in 2023 will be held in Britain. The organizers stressed that Ukraine, as the country that won the Eurovision 2022, will immediately participate in the final of the competition next year, regardless of the city in which it will be organized and what the political situation will be. Recall that the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest, held in Turin, Italy, in 2022, was the Ukrainian rap-folk group Kalush Orchestra with the song Stefania about the mother of one of the members of the creative team.
