Sela retailer founder Boris Ostrobrod drowned in a lake in Latvia, his cousin and partner Arkady Pekarevsky said. Mr. Ostrobrod was 65 years old.
“A tragic accident – I was driving along a lake in my home in Latvia, the car slipped into the lake, turned over and Borya drowned,” Mr. Pekarevsky wrote on Facebook (owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist in Russia and banned).
Messrs. Ostrobrod and Pekarevsky founded Sela in 1991. In 1997, the chain’s first branded store opened in St. Petersburg. In the summer of 2019 the company bought Melon Fashion Group (it owns Befree, Love Republic and Zarina). At the end of 2021, the Sela chain included 181 stores.
