The casting of the sawed-off head of Marshal Rokossovsky’s horse will begin soon

The author of the high relief “Victory Parade”, people’s sculptor of Russia Vladimir Surovtsev, began work on restoring the sculpture mutilated by vandals. The work is scheduled to be completed before the New Year.

Let us remind you that the bronze high relief, installed in September of this year, was desecrated by vandals, presumably on the night of December 12-13. It was then that a police officer discovered that the criminals had sawed off the head of Marshal Rokossovsky’s horse, which was hosting the Victory Parade, which took place on Red Square on June 24, 1945.

Unfortunately, the moment the crime was committed was not captured by CCTV cameras, so it will be quite difficult to find out who committed it. According to the sculptor, this act of vandalism will help convince the capital’s authorities of the need for a more attentive attitude to the protection of significant objects in the city and ensuring their illumination and constant video surveillance.

According to Vladimir Surovtsev, there will be no need to dismantle the bas-relief, only the horse’s head will need to be made. By now, the sculptor has restored it in plasticine. Then a plaster copy will be made, and the final stage of work will be casting the head in bronze. It is scheduled for the coming days. Then the head is soldered to the high relief and covered with an artificial patina.

By the way, this is not the first time that a sculptor restores something destroyed by vandals. Previously, he restored the monument to General Chernyakhovsky, destroyed by the Poles in 2015. It was installed in the Polish city of Penenzhno, during the capture of which the youngest general of the Soviet Army died. The bronze portrait of the general was restored; it is now placed on the wall of a school in the city of Chernyakhovsk, Kaliningrad region, which was also liberated by the famous general.
