The Soviet and Russian actor Valery Garkalin, who played the main role in the comedy Shirley-Myrli, will be erected a monument at the Miusskoye cemetery in Moscow in the spring of 2023. This was announced by the sculptor of the “Studio Sogoyan” Mikael Sogoyan. The actor died in November 2021 from the coronavirus, he was 67 years old.

“Valery Borisovich rests at the Miussky cemetery of the capital, two dozen meters from his wife, who passed away in 2009. I know that during his lifetime he repeatedly mentioned this necropolis as a place of last refuge, because he very often visited there. Until mid-October, we will complete the main amount of work, with the aim of opening the monument in the spring of 2023,” said Mr. Sogoyan (quoted by RIA Novosti).

According to the sculptor, the monument will recreate the exact image of the actor, “with a bewitching smile, giving himself entirely to the spectator of the theater and cinema, the countless army of students.”

Valery Garkalin is a Soviet and Russian actor, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation, professor at GITIS. The actor starred in the comedy “Shirley-Myrli”, the series “White Clothes”, the series “Yeralash”, “My Fair Nanny”.
