Scholz vows to introduce Germany’s electricity price ceiling “as soon as possible”

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that his country will introduce an upper limit on electricity prices in the very near future. He stated this in an interview with the TV channel ZDF. Former leader of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany, Friedrich Merz predicted blackouts in the country due to the abandonment of nuclear energy amid problems with gas supplies from Russia.
“This (the introduction of a ceiling on electricity prices.— “b”) will happen as soon as possible,” Mr. Scholz said, without specifying any details.
Regarding the complete power outage in the winter, the chancellor said that, in his estimation, “as far as one can tell”, this will not happen. At the same time, he did not exclude anything.
In an interview with ZDF, Olaf Scholz explained the low ratings “traffic light government” (consisting of the Social Democratic Party, the Green Party and the Free Democratic Party) in polls of the “hard times” the country is going through. “I can bear it,” the Chancellor assured.
To combat the energy crisis in Germany are building floating terminals for receiving liquefied natural gas. Today it became known that Germany filled out its gas storage facilities by 85%, despite the complete shutdown of the Nord Stream gas pipeline for repairs.
