To confirm their fraudulent schemes, attackers began sending fake documents to Russians via instant messengers, said Stanislav Kuznetsov, deputy chairman of the board of Sberbank. According to him, they send, among other things, false certificates of bank employees.
“One of the ways that attackers use to make the deception more convincing is to send fake documents to the client via a messenger that supposedly confirm what the attacker says,” Mr. Kuznetsov said in an interview with RIA Novosti on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. He clarified that this is not a new fraudulent scheme.
Deputy Chairman of the Board of Sberbank informedthat this year the number of telephone fraud attempts against Russians reached 8.6 million per day compared to 5 million in 2022. As Stanislav Kuznetsov clarified, the most popular fraud scheme remains a transfer or deposit to a “safe account”. The bank estimates that it accounts for more than 77% of fraud attempts.
