Sberbank will join the second stage of testing the digital ruble

Sberbank (MOEX: SBER) will take part in the second wave of testing the digital ruble, said the head of the credit institution, German Gref. In the first stage of the experiment to introduce the digital ruble, Sberbank didn’t participate.
Answering the question TASS on the sidelines of Russian Energy Week about Sberbank’s plans to participate in the second stage of testing the digital ruble, German Gref said: “Yes, we will certainly.”
The Bank of Russia began work on creating a digital ruble in 2021. The main provisions of the law establishing the legal norms for the introduction of the digital ruble in Russia came into force on August 1, 2023. In the same month, piloting of the digital ruble began in real transactions for individuals and legal entities.
Operations until 2025 will take place in test mode, so far only 13 credit institutions are connected to the regulator’s special platform. Among them are VTB (MOEX: VTBR), Alfa Bank, Dom.RF, Ingosstrakh Bank, Gazprombank, Qiwi Bank, Ak Bars, MTS Bank, Promsvyazbank, Sovcombank, Sinara, Rosbank and TKB.
