Sberbank opens first branch in Crimea

The first branch of Sberbank in Crimea opened in Yalta, TASS and RIA Novosti reported on Saturday.
The two-story office will begin work on Sovetskaya Square, next to which the building of the city council and administration, a cinema and a shopping center are located, clarifies “RIA News”.

As follows from the information on the bank’s website, the amount of commissions is set at the same level as in other regions of the Russian Federation and amounts to 1 – 2.5%, depending on the category of goods, the turnover of the store and the method of accepting payments. Tariffs began to operate from February 15.
The beginning of the work of Sberbank in the Crimea became known in mid-January. Sberbank before the annexation of Crimea to Russia, he worked on the peninsula and Sevastopol through his Ukrainian “daughter”. After the events of the “Crimean spring”, the state bank curtailed operations there and has not planned to return since then. In April 2022, the state-owned bank came under US blocking sanctions. At the same time, the Permanent Representative of Crimea to the President of Russia, Deputy Prime Minister of the region Georgy Muradov turned to large Russian banks, including Sberbank, with a request to open their offices on the peninsula.
The Governor of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvozzhaev, then said that the inhabitants of the region were waiting for the resumption of the work of Sberbank on the Crimean peninsula. “It is no secret that earlier, in order to issue the same bank card, one had to go to the nearest office, which is located in Taman, the first settlement behind the Crimean bridge. I know that Sevastopol residents have long been waiting for the arrival of Sberbank, this will allow them to fully use all the possibilities of the bank, ”he wrote.
