Sberbank (MOEX: SBER) filed two statements of claim with the Moscow Arbitration Court against the Japanese banks MUFG Bank and Mizuho Bank. WITH MUFG Bank he demands to recover about 67 million rubles, from Mizuho Bank – more than 100 million rubles, follows from the file of arbitration cases.
Two statements of claim, in which Sberbank is named as the plaintiff, were submitted to the court on October 6. The claim against MUFG Bank was accepted by the court for consideration. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 9. The second claim – against Mizuho Bank – has not yet been accepted for proceedings. The grounds for the claims in both cases have not yet been disclosed.
MUFG Bank and Mizuho Bank are represented in Russia by subsidiaries of credit institutions JSC MG Bank (Eurasia) and JSC Mizuho Bank (Moscow), respectively. In March 2022, MUFG Bank and Mizuho Bank stopped dollar transactions and money transfers with Sberbank. The decision was made due to US sanctions imposed in response to the start of Russia’s military operation in Ukraine.
