Sanctions helped to increase the export of Russian polymers to the EU

Deliveries of Russian polyethylene to the EU for the six months of 2022 increased by 63% compared to the first half of last year to 136,000 tons, polypropylene – by 43% to 196,000 tons, follows from the data of the Center for Economic Forecasting of Gazprombank (CEP GPB). In addition, exports to Turkey increased: polyethylene – by 68% to 82,000 tons, polypropylene – by 1% to 93,000 tons.
Deliveries to China and India, according to the CEP GPB, on the contrary, sank significantly. Exports of polyethylene and polypropylene to China decreased by 48% and 32% to 155,000 and 12,000 tons, respectively. Shipments of polypropylene to India sank by 79% over six months and amounted to only 1,000 tons, but Russia delivered almost twice as much polyethylene there as in the same period in 2021 – 2,000 tons.
