Samsung to launch production of 2nm chips in 2025 – Kommersant

Samsung Electronics announced at an event for its partners that it intends to master the two-nanometer process technology by 2025, reports Bloomberg.
The South Korean company plans to introduce the latest technological process in the production of chips for mobile phones by 2025, and then expand its application. By 2026, it will be implemented in the field of high-performance computing, and by 2027 – in automotive electronics. Samsung Electronics also said it intends to significantly expand production at its Pyeongtaek (South Korea) and Taylor (USA) plants.
Further plans to establish mass production of 1.4 nm chips remained unchanged – Samsung hopes to master this process from 2027.
The world’s first two-nanometer microchip was created by IBM in 2020. And in 2021, the American company introduced and first processor based on this chip. The company intends to start mass production at the end of 2024.
Intel announced in March completion development of technical processes 1.8 nm and 2 nm. The company is ready to begin production of two-nanometer chips in the first half of 2024. Taiwan’s TSMC is preparing to begin mass production of 2nm chips in 2025.
