Samsung banned employees from using chatbots – Kommersant

According to BloombergSamsung Electronics sent a letter to its employees last week announcing a ban on AI chatbots like ChatGPT, Bard or Bing.
The reason for the ban was the careless use of ChatGPT by some of the company’s engineers, who in April uploaded the source code of one of Samsung’s products to the neural network, as a result of which it was in the public domain. The company did not disclose which Samsung product code was uploaded to ChatGPT.
“Interest in platforms that use generative artificial intelligence, such as ChatGPT, is growing … And despite the fact that this interest is primarily related to the benefits and effectiveness of such platforms, at the same time, concerns about the safety of using generative AI are also growing,” says in a letter to employees. With this in mind, and taking into account the data breach incident, Samsung banned the use of such platforms on corporate computers, tablets, and mobile phones. And in the case of using chatbots on personal devices, employees are prohibited from uploading company confidential information to the neural network. Violation of this prohibition can lead to dismissal, the letter says.
As Bloomberg notes, Samsung is not the first company to ban employees from using chatbots. Previously, their use was banned or restricted by some US banks, including JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America and Citigroup. And in March, restrictions on the use of the ChatGPT chat bot introduced Italy.
