In the first quarter, sales of smartphones of domestic brands fell by 53% year-on-year to 46.9 thousand units. The newspaper reported Vedomosti with reference to Marvel Distribution data. According to the publication, Russian smartphones could not withstand price competition with imports from China.
The sharp drop in sales of smartphones of domestic brands is also confirmed by the data of the Ozon platform: in the first quarter, 47% less smartphones were sold than in the three months of last year. The most popular Russian brands are BQ and Inoi.
Artur Makhlyuk, a business analyst at F+ tech-Marvel, told Vedomosti that the decline in sales is also due to the fact that most Russian brands are represented by budget devices. Therefore, buyers, having closed the need for an inexpensive device, buy a second device at a higher level or switch to models with extended functionality.
