Sales of “radiation remedies” increased on Russian marketplaces

In the spring and summer of 2022, sales of potassium iodide, which protects against radiation, increased on the Ozon and Wildberries marketplaces. Sales were up 103% in April compared to March, 40% in May compared to April and 42% compared to June.

As reported in a study by the analytics service of Internet retailers Moneyplace, which were reviewed by Forbes, in August, sales growth began to decline. The service clarified that this is due to the large number of sales in July, since “the most emotional purchases” have already been made this month.

The service also reported that from August 1 to 22, sales of radiation measuring devices on Ozon and Wildberries increased by 161% compared to the previous month.

“Sellers see key requests and try to meet potential demand in advance by bringing these products to marketplaces,” said Dmitry Ermolaev, CEO of Moneyplace.

In March, The Daily Mail reported that the US was facing a shortage of potassium iodide tablets. US citizens, as noted by the publication, feared a possible nuclear war and incidents at one of the nuclear power plants in Ukraine. Earlier, Reuters also reported that demand for potassium iodide and other preparations containing it has increased in Europe.
