Sales of passenger cars in Russia fell by 74.9% in July

In Russia, only 32,412 cars were sold in July, a drop of 74.9% or 96,819 compared to the same period in 2021, according to data from the Association of European Businesses (AEB).

According to the AEB, domestic “AvtoVAZ” ranks first in sales in Russia. Despite this, the company sold only 10,323 Lada cars, which is 68% less than in July 2021. In seven months of 2022, the company sold a total of 85,037 cars in Russia, which is 63% less year-on-year.

Lexus sales fell the most, down 99%, with only 19 cars sold in July 2022 compared to 1,531 cars in July last year. Kia also showed a significant drop – 3,903 (77% drop) in July, Hyundai — 3,394 (-75%), Renaul — 1,656 (-85%).

The only firm to show growth in July and seven months of 2022 was the Chinese automaker Dongfeng Motor Corporation (DFM). The company sold 203 vehicles in July 2022, a 298% increase compared to July 2021, and 816 vehicles were sold in just seven months, a 1,500% increase compared to the same period last year.

26 July became knownthat the number of purchased used cars decreased by 22% in the first six months of 2022, follows from the analytics of the Avtostat agency. At the same time, in just the first half of the year, Russians purchased more than 2.17 million used cars. It is noted that the domestic LADA remains the most popular brand in the secondary market of the Russian Federation. In the six months of 2022, Russians bought 544.6 thousand of these used cars. The share of LADA in the secondary market is 25.1%.
