Sales of medicines for coronavirus fell by almost a third – Kommersant

In the first quarter, Russian pharmacies sold 37.2 million packages of COVID-19 medicine, 31% less than in the same period last year. This was announced by the operator of the Chestny Znak marking system – the Center for the Development of Advanced Technologies.
“In Russian pharmacies in the first quarter of 2023, 37.2 million packages of COVID-19 drugs were sold. This is 31% lower than sales for the same period last year, when Russians bought 54.1 million packs of medicines,” the Center told the Prime agency. Over the year, spending by Russians on medicines for COVID-19 decreased by 39%, from 25.8 billion to 15.6 billion rubles.
From calculations based on sales data from the labeling system and Rosstat information on the population, it follows that Primorsky Krai (3321 packages per 10 thousand inhabitants), Magadan and Tyumen regions buy the most medicines for coronavirus. Rounding out the top five are the Orel Region and the Perm Territory. The top ten included Tuva, the Kursk region, the Trans-Baikal Territory, the Omsk and Voronezh regions.
The WHO canceled COVID-19 pandemic status on May 5, 2023. Pandemic status was introduced in 2020. At the end of April, the first cases of infection with Arcturus, a new subspecies of coronavirus from India, were detected in Russia, which led to a strong increase in the incidence in this country. Rospotrebnadzor said that it continues to monitor the situation.
