Sales of birth control pills increased – Vedomosti

Total sales of oral contraceptives (pills prescribed to prevent unwanted pregnancy) in the period from January to September 2023 amounted to more than 20.7 billion rubles, the analytical company DSM Group calculated. According to its data, this is the highest figure in at least the last six years (the DSM Group did not conduct such studies before 2017). Compared to 2022, the increase over nine months was 5% (last year, such funds were sold for 19.7 billion rubles during the specified period). And in the first three quarters of 2021, Russians purchased oral contraceptives for 15.3 billion rubles.

Another analytical company, RNC Pharma, confirms the growth in sales of such drugs for the first nine months of 2023, but its data is different: +23.5% in volume terms and +21% in monetary terms. RNC Pharma does not disclose absolute values. Representatives of the pharmaceutical market also talk about positive dynamics. In particular, at the federal pharmacy chain 36.6, sales of pills to prevent unwanted pregnancy increased by 3.1% over the year. The same numbers are quoted in “Pharmacy 25”. The medical company BestDoctor only noted that “women began to use combined oral contraceptives more and more often.”
