S7 Airlines (Siberia) is preparing to launch flights Irkutsk-Bangkok, Moscow-Urgench, Novosibirsk-Dubai. These flights were delayed yesterday, September 29, pending a decision from the Russian authorities.

“S7 Airlines is preparing to send flights from Irkutsk to Bangkok, from Moscow to Urgench, from Novosibirsk to Dubai, which were delayed the day before. Passengers on all flights have been informed about the current departure time,” the airline said in a statement (quoted by Prime).

The day before became knownthat Russian air carriers received a telegram from the Federal Air Transport Agency with a recommendation not to fly abroad on aircraft of the State Transport Leasing Company (GTLK), which is subject to EU and US restrictions, due to the risk of ships being arrested. At the same time, S7 airline announced the postponement of flights to Bangkok, Urgench and Dubai until 00:00 on September 30.

Recommendations of the Federal Air Transport Agency touched only aircraft of foreign subsidiaries of State Transport Leasing Company, which are undergoing bankruptcy proceedings. At Aeroflot assuredthat the existing fleet is sufficient for uninterrupted flights to international destinations. Ministry of Transport reportedthat the restriction for STLC aircraft will not affect flights abroad.

In February 2022, as part of sanctions, the European Union obliged foreign leasing companies to recall aircraft of Russian air carriers. After this, the Federal Air Transport Agency recommended that carriers with leased aircraft in their fleet not fly abroad. In March, Russian authorities passed a law on a second registration for such aircraft.
