Ryanair ordered to reimburse $2.4 million for canceled flights – Kommersant

London court today decidedthat Irish budget airline Ryanair must pay travel agencies £2 million ($2.4 million) for canceling its flights during the summer 2021 tourist season. Then the airline massively canceled flights until August inclusive, and travel agencies that sold package tours to clients along with air tickets were forced to pay compensation to people.
The lawsuit against the airline was filed back in October 2021. Travel agencies say Ryanair has abused its dominant position in the low-cost air travel market. The court found the travel agencies’ arguments sound, saying Ryanair had resorted to “unjust enrichment.”
Following today’s court ruling, Ryanair said travel agencies must now prove exactly how much compensation they paid to customers in order to receive a refund from the airline. In turn, the plaintiffs emphasized that the court’s decision “suggests that the (air transportation) industry— ”b”) must be responsible to consumers.” “We will continue to appeal to the British competition authorities to review the anti-competitive behavior of some low-cost carriers,” Bloomberg quotes Sean Morton, director of travel agency On the Beach.
