In 2023, Russians took out almost 35 million payday loans in the amount of up to 30 thousand rubles for up to a month with a one-time repayment. At the same time, the SRO “MiR” (the largest association on the market) told Vedomosti that it is premature to evaluate the results of the year based on the total amount of microloans issued. Over the three quarters of 2023, Russians took out loans worth RUB 348.1 billion from microfinance organizations. Of these, “payday loans” accounted for 26%, or about 90.5 billion rubles, which is 18.2% more than the level of 2022, noted the SRO “MiR”.

High demand for loans among Russians appeared against the backdrop of inflation and tightening credit policies of banks, believes Andrey Ponomarev, head of the Webbankir online platform. Moneyman CEO Alexander Pustovit noted that Russian banks are now actively starting to develop the microfinance sector and issue urgent loans to the population.
