In June, the Russians for the first time simultaneously reduced all foreign exchange funds: cash, in foreign and Russian accounts, as well as with brokers. It is reported by “RIA Novosti” with reference to the data of the Central Bank (CB).
According to the agency’s calculations, the Russians held $218 billion in foreign currency savings, down 1% compared to May. For the first time since April 2022, the amount of funds on accounts abroad decreased by 0.9%, to $73 billion. Foreign currency deposits in Russian banks have been declining for the twelfth month in a row, this time by 2.5%, to $45.3 billion.
Foreign currency holdings in cash decreased by 0.2% to $96.6 billion. Cash on brokerage accounts in foreign currency decreased by 9.5% to $2.9 billion.
According to the Central Bank, according to the results of the first quarter of 2023, the volume of foreign currency in cash among the population decreased by 17.8 billion rubles. In the remaining foreign exchange savings, the majority is still accounted for by dollars and euros, while the share of friendly currencies is only 13% of account and deposit balances.
