Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko said that Russians have overcome their dependence on traveling abroad, and domestic holidays have become fashionable and prestigious. He also noted that domestic tourist flows in 2023 increased by 21%.

“The domestic tourist flow is growing; in 2023 it exceeded the pre-pandemic level and reached 78 million tourist trips, which is 21% more than last year. We, of course, need to build up the tourism infrastructure as quickly as possible in order to meet the growing demand of our citizens who love to vacation in our country. We have broken the tourist colonial dependence, and it has become fashionable and prestigious to vacation in our country,” said the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation during a meeting on the development of tourism in the Kemerovo region and the implementation of activities of the national project “Tourism and Hospitality Industry” (quote from “TASS”).

He also noted that Russia has developed an index of regional provision with tourism infrastructure. In his speech, Mr. Chernyshenko mentioned the Siberian ski resort Sheregesh. The Deputy Prime Minister is confident that the resort will attract a lot of investment in the future. Dmitry Chernyshenko called the intention of the governor of the Kemerovo region Sergei Tsivilev to bring the region into the top five world ski resorts by 2030 very ambitious.

Formerly President Vladimir Putin statedthat it is necessary to pay special attention to the development of active domestic tourism. In his address to the Federal Assembly, the head of state put the task of doubling the contribution of the tourism industry to Russia’s GDP by 2030, to 5%, and the flow of tourists throughout the country should increase to 140 million people per year.

A complete list of Vladimir Putin’s instructions to the government is in the Kommersant publication “Six-year price list”.
