Russians began to visit domestic sanatoriums more often

The number of trips of Russians to the resorts of Caucasian Mineralnye Vody increased by 18% in 2022, informs Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR). At the same time, the average age of visitors to sanatoriums has decreased significantly.
The authorities of Kislovodsk reported an increase in the average annual occupancy of sanatoriums and hotels of the Caucasian Mineralnye Vody resort over the past year. In 2022, sanatoriums were filled by 82%, and hotels by 70%. In 2021, this figure was fixed at 76% for health resorts and 40% for hotels.
Russian tour operators suggest that the main drivers of demand for recreation in the resorts of the Caucasian Mineralnye Vody are a surge of interest in domestic tourism and a general trend towards recovery. The inaccessibility of foreign health resorts, including European ones, also contributed to an increase in the tourist flow. According to the forecasts of tourism market experts, growth will continue in 2023.
“Tourists who previously went to the Czech Republic and Germany for treatment are now choosing the Kavminvod resorts, which are now actively investing in the development, updating of the medical and recreational base,” said representatives of the Intourist tour operator company.
Experts of the Russian tourism market note that the audience of resorts and sanatoriums has become much younger. According to Intourist, currently most of the armor falls on tourists aged 25 to 35 years.
“The average age of a tourist has decreased significantly. Sanatorium holidays are no longer a cliché in the form of holidays only for elderly people with health problems, ”says representatives of the FUN&SUN agency.
From 12 September the European Union canceled simplified procedure for obtaining visas for Russians. On September 30, Finland closed the borders for tourists from Russia. Similar restrictions were introduced in Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, Latvia and the Czech Republic.
