The Association of Winegrowers and Winemakers of Russia appealed to the government and the State Duma with a request to set import duties for wine from NATO countries at 200%. This was reported to RIA Novosti by the executive secretary of the association, Alexey Plotnikov.
“We decided to forward the position of AVVR to the government of the Russian Federation and the expert council of the State Duma Committee on Economic Policy, including the establishment of import duties for wine, sparkling wine, and fortified wine from NATO countries at 200%,” said Alexey Plotnikov.
The Association of Winegrowers and Winemakers also advocates the introduction of a 20% quota for Russian wine in stores from September 1, with a further increase, and 50% for restaurants and cafes. At the same time, it is proposed to indicate domestic wines at the beginning of the menu. Another proposal of the association is to cancel the preferential regime of import duties on wines from Georgia.
Last year, the government increased import duties on wines from unfriendly countries – from 12.5% to 20%, but not less than $1.5 per liter. The measures took effect on August 1 and were later extended through 2024.
