Russian Railways tops Forbes ranking of Russia’s largest employers – Kommersant

Forbes first presented rating 50 largest employers in Russia. The rating was topped by Russian Railways, with Gazprom taking second place (MOEX: GAZP), the third is “Magnit” (MOEX: MGNT).
The rating took into account operating companies registered in Russia, as well as legal entities registered in other jurisdictions. Companies are ranked by number of employees. In cases where a company has stopped publishing reports, data from the 2020s and 2021s was used.
As Forbes notes, Russian Railways unites almost the entire railway complex of the country; at the end of 2022, the company had 701,200 employees. According to data for the same period, Gazprom employed 492,200 people, Magnit – 361 thousand people.
The top 10 also included: X5 Group (MOEX: FIVE; 344,774 employees), Rosneft (336,200), Rosatom (329,200), Russian Post (305,014), Rosseti (213,400), Sber (MOEX: SBER; 210,661), Roscosmos (181,100). Forbes recorded the largest increase in employees at Rosatom – +40,700 people for 2022.
In total, the number of employees of the 50 companies included in the rating exceeded 5.98 million people. 30 companies on the list are privately owned, 20 are directly or indirectly controlled by the state.
