Russian oilmen increased the commissioning of oil wells in April by 16.5%

The commissioning of new oil wells in Russia in April 2023 increased by 16.5% compared to April last year and amounted to 627 wells. This was reported by two sources of Vedomosti, familiar with the statistics of the Ministry of Energy. The growth rate for vertically integrated oil companies (VIOCs) was 15.5% (559 wells commissioned), while for other producers it was 25% (65 wells).
In the first four months of the year, the commissioning of oil wells in Russia increased by 11% year-on-year to 2628 wells. Most of the growth came from VIOCs, which increased commissioning by 12% to 2388. Other producers, including independent oil companies, showed a more modest increase – by 4% to 238 wells. Three more wells, as well as for the same period in 2022, were commissioned by Novatek, one was commissioned by Sakhalin Energy, the operator of the Sakhalin-2 project.
