Russian IT companies will undertake not to raise prices for software “above a reasonable level”

Leading Russian IT companies have agreed to introduce self-regulation of software prices, the Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation reported following a meeting with market participants. The agency claims that the developers will make a commitment “not to raise prices above a reasonable level.”
As reported by the Ministry of Digital Telegram, companies are preparing to sign a memorandum of responsible work in the IT market. It is not specified which companies intend to sign the document.
Developers will post up-to-date information on the marginal cost of products on the official marketplace of Russian software. They can be deprived of accreditation upon receipt of complaints about “unreasonable increase” in prices.
Over the year, Russian software developers have raised prices by 30-50%, Kommersant found out earlier. Buyers attribute the trend to the lack of competition in the market, which Western suppliers have left. The developers themselves partly recognize the rise in prices, but more moderate. Large consumers of Russian software have previously applied to the Ministry of Digital Transformation with a request to influence the situation.
