Russian gas supplies via pipeline to the EU may fall by 65% in 2023 – Kommersant

The International Economic Agency (IEA) in its report on the state of the global gas market predicted a drop in Russian gas supplies to the European Union (EU) by the end of this year by 65%.
“The future of Russian pipeline gas supplies to the EU remains a key uncertainty. In 2022, they fell by more than half, falling from almost 140 billion cubic meters. m in 2021 to just over 60 billion cubic meters. m. Taking into account current trends in gas flows, supplies of Russian pipeline gas in 2023 will decrease by approximately 65% and amount to 20–25 billion cubic meters. m,” says the IEA report. Agency analysts believe that next year, with a high probability, the agreement on gas transit from the Russian Federation to the EU via Ukraine will be broken and the only route for fuel supply will be the Turkish Stream.
The IEA also suggests that Russian natural gas production by the end of 2023 may fall to its lowest level since 2009.
Currently, Russian gas to Europe supplied through the territory of Ukraine and along the Turkish Stream. At the beginning of 2023, due to a reduction in demand, the volume of supplies through Sudzha decreased by 40%. It recovered by August due to strikes at LNG plants in Australia, which caused gas prices to fluctuate in the European market.
