As of January 1, 2023, 6.63 trillion rubles, or $94.3 billion, were kept on deposits of Russians in foreign banks. In 2022, the figure more than tripled – Russians replenished deposits by $63.7 billion, follows from the statistics of the Central Bank (.xls). This is a record increase in funds on deposits of foreign banks since the publication of the statistics of the Bank of Russia in 2018.
According to the Central Bank, according to the results of the third quarter of 2022, Russians translated on deposits abroad 1.47 trillion rubles – a record amount since the publication of the regulator’s statistics. The inflow of funds occurred after the easing of the restrictions of the Central Bank on money transfers abroad. So, in March 2022, the regulator limited the monthly amount of transfers abroad to $5,000 for resident individuals. In June, the limit was raised to $1 million per month.
