Russian banks will not extend reduced acquiring commissions for socially important products

Russian banks are going to return the previous levels of commissions for acquiring for sellers of socially important goods and services, reported “RIA News” referring to banks. The reduced commission for acquiring is valid until August 31, the Central Bank has not announced its intention to extend it.
As RIA Novosti was informed in Russian banks, they are going to return to the previous terms of acquiring if the Central Bank does not extend the restrictions on the acquiring commission. Banks also plan to return conditions for cashback programs if it was reduced due to restrictions.
Sberbank, VTB, Promsvyazbank and Zenit Bank announced plans to return to the previous acquiring conditions.
The banks noted that end consumers would not be affected by the change in fees, as retailers were the main beneficiaries of the restrictions.
Recall that earlier the Central Bank limited the size of the acquiring commission for sellers of socially significant products and services to 1%. The restriction is valid from April 18 to August 31. The regulator reported that they were not going to extend this period. Earlier, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and retailers proposed to legally limit acquiring fees for credit and debit cards separately. Market participants note that such restrictions will give additional competitive advantages to large retailers and banks, which will negatively affect small enterprises.
